Ludhiana development body launches drive to stop mushrooming of illegal colonies, ET RealEstate
LUDHIANA: Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) has launched a special drive to take action against people developing illegal colonies. On Tuesday, Glada officials took action against five such illegal colonies, removing the infrastructure there.
The officials dismantled roads, passages as well as other illegal constructions and structures on these sites. Of the five unauthorised colonies, two were situated at Bholapur village and one each at Tajpur village, Bhamian Kalan and Kulianwal respectively.
When developers did not stop the illegal construction work despite being served notices, a special team carried out the demolition drive with the co-operation of police and PSPCL officials and the revenue department. Glada plans more such drives to check the mushrooming of illegal colonies.
Glada chief administrator Sagar Setia said that a special drive has been launched to take punitive action against those fleecing residents on the pretext of offering them cheap plots in unauthorised colonies which lacked statutory sanction and compliance with government norms.
He urged people not to purchase property/plots/buildings in unauthorised colonies as Glada would not provide any facility like water supply, sewerage, electricity connections, street lights etc. He also said that a list of approved and regularised colonies along with their sanctioned maps was available on the official website of Glada and asked prospective buyers to check it before buying any property.
Glada additional chief administrator Amarjit Singh Bains said that besides undertaking a demolition campaign, the authority has also recommended to tehsildars concerned not to register plots in these unauthorised colonies. Besides, PSPCL has been asked not to issue electricity connections to unauthorised colonies.
