PUNE: PMRDA has identified 1,145 illegal structures and razed 56 of them over the past nine months.

According to a senior official of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the drive has lost pace due to the monsoon and will be intensified in the next three months.

“We have identified illegal structures with the help of drones. It is specially helpful to identify structures which have been illegally plotted on vacant government lands. We have pulled down such structures,” Monica Singh, head of the PMRDA’s illegal construction demolition department said.

The authority, since 2015, has identified 9,349 illegal structures for which a total of 1,920 notices have been issued and 324 such structures have been pulled down.

With illegal plotting becoming rampant in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR), FIRs have been registered against the violators. Officials said around 100 FIRs have been registered and 76 more are likely to be filed in connection with illegal plotting.

“The region is spread across 6,000 sq km and regular drives are being conducted to check illegal structures. It will be easier to keep a check on illegal construction if all departments involved in granting permission have a system to keep tabs on them,” another senior official said.
