CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said Wednesday with the work going on to develop the Jewar Airport in Noida, new possibilities have opened for development in the state’s Faridabad and Palwal districts, which adjoin Jewar.

Khattar also declared a new masterplan — Faridabad Development Plan- 2031 — under which development will be carried out by declaring the area near the Yamuna canal as a “controlled area”.

The chief minister was in Faridabad to preside over the meeting of Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA) on Wednesday, in which Faridabad MP and Union minister of state for energy and heavy industries, Krishna Pal Gurjar, Haryana transport minister Mool Chand Sharma, and state ULB minister Kamal Gupta were also present.

In the meeting, a total budget of Rs 878.23 crore was approved for the year 2023-24 to accelerate the development of Faridabad city through the FMDA.

Key projects aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure, citizen services, and environment were approved, while envisioning the future population growth and related infrastructure development requirements by 2031. FMDA CEO A Sreenivas presented the plan, which the CM approved.

Potable water, STPs among other issues

Khattar said the FMDA has developed the Faridabad Development Plan- 2031, with a futuristic outlook and vision for the district.

The chief minister said that under the masterplan, the FMDA is presently constructing 12 new ranney wells for the supply of bulk drinking water to the present and potential population of the entire Faridabad city. Presently, water availability in Faridabad is 330 million litres per day (MLD), and these new wells will take the supply capacity to 450 MLD.

Similarly, Faridabad presently has 272.5 MLD capacity sewage treatment plants (STPs) available to treat 380 MLD total domestic wastewater. Moreover, domestic sewage production is expected to rise to 630 MLD in 2031 and 672 MLD in 2040. The new masterplan would come up with new plans to deal with the requirements.

20km-long four-laner along Agra canal

Khattar said the proposal for construction of two additional lanes and strengthening of the existing two-lane road on the 20km-long stretch along the Agra canal in Greater Faridabad has been approved. Through this route, the passengers will have improved access to Delhi, Noida, Meerut, Bulandshahr and Yamuna expressway, as well as the Faridabad-Jewar Airport Road. He said the Uttar Pradesh irrigation department will execute this project at Rs 278 crore.

Khattar added that to enhance security measures in the city, the government would also strengthen the CCTV surveillance in Faridabad. A proposal to provide about 1,009 cameras at various places was also presented, which has been approved.
