PUNE: Altogether 423 real estate agents from across the state appeared for the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) certification examination on Saturday.

This is the first-ever examination for certification of real estate agents in the state conducted by the MahaRERA, said an official.

All 39,000 agents registered with MahaRERA as well as those unregistered need to receive the MahaRERA certification before September 1 for plying their trade as property agents.

The MahaRERA had issued a circular on January 10 this year, making it mandatory for real-estate agents to undergo professional training and obtain certification.

An official said that 457 agents received training from the authority, but 423 agents appeared for the exam. “We had a 92% attendance in the first round of examination post-training. The next round of examination will be conducted soon for the next lot of agents who have completed their training,” an official told TOI.

The authority imparts training in the MahaRERA rules and regulations. The exam is conducted in a phased manner and all agents are told to register for it. Only those with the certificate can operate as real estate agents from September 1, said an official, adding that the May 20 examination has set in motion structural changes for estate agents .
