GURUGRAM: Intensifying its action against illegal colonies and unauthorised commercial activities, the enforcement team of the department of town and country planning (DTCP) demolished five illegal colonies which had come up in the no-construction zone near Sultanpur sanctuary. The department also sealed 28 major commercial stores illegally operating from Sushant Lok 2.

“These colonies had come up around the 56 acre of prime land in the revenue estate of Sultanpur village falling in the Urban Area and Controlled Area. During the drive, 46 under-construction houses, 12 boundary walls, 72 other structures and earthen road network were demolished with the help of earthmovers in presence of police,” said district town planner (DTP) Sumeet Malik, who handles matters regarding illegal colonies.

Malik appealed to the people that they should not invest their money in such unauthorised colonies and they should check with the DTP office before buying a land or plot.

On Thursday morning, the team sealed 28 commercial activities running from 20 residential properties in Sushant Lok 2. Officials said that illegal shops were running from six plots and the complaint regarding this was pending for nearly 18 months. The sealing drive lasted for about six hours, and a police force was present to deal with the protest. Shopkeepers of the mall and residents were continuously complaining about traffic jams, parking on the road.

Similarly, many other commercial activities were being carried out in many houses of G and F blocks around Hong Kong market and Bestech Mall in Sushant Lok 2.

District town planner (enforcement) Manish Yadav said the department was continuously receiving complaints regarding these activities.

Under the rules of Haryana Urban Development Act, 1975, commercial activities cannot be carried out in residential houses. Last month, the sealing campaign could not be conducted in this area due to the busy schedule and non-availability of the duty magistrate.

Apart from fruit and vegetables stores, there were property dealer offices, doctor’s clinic, salon, gym, and furnishing shops which were sealed.

“So far, around 200 commercial activities have been sealed by the department, Yadav said.
