LUDHIANA: Keeping in view residents’ complaints about the rampant illegal construction in the city, MC commissioner Shena Aggarwal has assigned zonal commissioners the task to regularly monitor the situation through building inspectors, head drafts men and other junior staff.
The power to allow regularisation of residential buildings has also been given to the zonal commissioners. The zonal commissioners are told to get random checks conducted on holidays to keep a check on illegal construction work in their respective zones.
In case, during the checking, any illegal construction work comes to light, the area building inspectors and assistant town planners will be held responsible. The officials will upload the information about illegal construction work and notices issued to the defaulters online.
The zonal commissioners will also check the notices issued by the staff and follow up on the action taken over the same. They can also check status of previous notices.
The zonal commissioners can also take decisions regarding sealing, de-sealing and demolishing of illegal constructions while keeping in view the norms.
Meanwhile, these orders have created panic among the building branch officials, who claimed that zonal commissioners were not a part of the building branch in the past and it will be difficult to work with them as they are not technically sound.
