THANE: The Thane Zilla Parishad is working on mapping and creating a unified digital database of its over 9500 properties- worth thousands of crores spread across the district in a bid to optimise them and also save it from encroachment and subsequent litigations, officials informed.

The exercise involves charting out all properties including schools, offices, community centres and playgrounds and open spaces among others that are owned by the government in Thane district.

The initiative will see these properties being digitally mapped using drones and geo tagging in government records.

All information regarding the area, ownership or even lease tenure, including disputes if any, encroachments done in recent times, etc will be updated online which can be accessed by the government at any stage.

“The idea is to create a master register of all our properties and get instant information about them at the click of a button.

This will not just help us understand the history of these properties including past litigations, encroachment attempts on these assets that could collectively be worth over thousands of crores but also help us optimise them wherever necessary,” said Thane ZP CEO, Manuj Jindal illustrating how the government would benefit from using its own lands when initiating a new programme or starting a new facility like schools, etc.
