NASHIK: Municipal commissioner Ashok Karanjkar has expressed his unhappiness with the improper disposal of construction and demolition waste by a section of builders and contractors.

During a meeting with the civic body’s Godavari pollution prevention cell, Karanjkar told civic officials to start acting against erring builders and private parties found disposing waste in a haphazard manner.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has deployed two vehicles in each of the six divisions of the civic body to lift construction debris. The civic body has fixed the charge for lifting and transporting construction debris at Rs 800 per tonne.

Deputy commissioner (environment & Godavari cell) Vijay Kumar Mundhe said that the issue of throwing construction debris in the open was discussed at the meeting. “The NMC commissioner has told the officials to act tough against those found disposing debris in a haphazard manner. Erring builders, contractors and individuals will be slapped with hefty fines if they are found throwing debris in the open or along city roads,” said Mundhe. The NMC has appealed to city builders and residents to approach the divisional offices for lifting construction waste, failing which a fine 10 times the user charges will be slapped.Meanwhile, the NMC has given the work order to a private agency to set up and operate the C&D waste recycling plant at Pathradi on the outskirts of the city. It has identified around seven acres at Pathardi to construct the C&D waste recycling plant.
