TRICHY: Union minister of state for road transport, highways and civil aviation V K Singh has promised to monitor implementation of Prime Minister Awaz Yojana (PMAY) in Tamil Nadu to check the alleged irregularities.

He told reporters in Pudukottai that the government of India was very transparent. “If you can give me the details, we will have it checked with the central agencies which are allotting funds to (the housing scheme). It can be monitored,” he said on the alleged irregularities in constructing 600 houses under the scheme at Aavudaiyarkovil.

Singh was in Pudukottai to attend a public meeting at Keeramangalam on the achievements of the BJP government at the Centre. He also participated in the boomi pooja for constructing nine houses at Otchampatti and visited the archaeological excavation at Porpanakottai besides meeting party functionaries.

Singh said the PMAY scheme has fulfilled the promise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure a house for everyone. “The type of progress made in various social schemes under PM is unparalleled in the governance of India so far,” he said.

Singh said Tamil Nadu has got various schemes from the Centre and the state should ensure their implementation. He said all national highways remained in good condition. He denied that there are more toll booths on NHs in Tamil Nadu. “Toll booths have been set up depending upon the length of the stretch as per the toll rule,” he said. The minister said that the government was looking at the possibilities of reviving the old Chettinad airport at Karaikudi.
