NEW DELHI: Solar lights are one of the most trendy and effective ways of lighting today. This type of lighting has been prominently adopted by people these days in both urban and rural areas. If you are also inspired by solar lights and want to add solar lights in your home, then you should definitely get some technical knowledge on solar lights.

Out of all the parts of the solar lighting system – it is highly essential to get information about the solar batteries as the performance of the solar lights exclusively depends upon the battery. So, today, we are going to discuss about the different types of solar light batteries that will enable you with high powered solar lights.

1. Lead-acid battery and SMF

Lead-acid batteries are popular among users because of their compatible price range. This battery is highly affordable as compared to the other advanced technologies. But, this battery is loaded with numerous negative points like – it required regular maintenance, high risk or explosion, environmental concerns and it is very complicated to handle it in extreme weather.

The lifespan of the lead-acid battery is hardly 2-3 years. The problem of using the lead-acid battery in the solar lighting system is that it requires bigger solar panels for charging and a bigger size battery will take up lots of space. A solar panel has to produce 12 V minimum to charge this battery which means during cloudy days it will be impossible to charge batteries.

2. Lithium-Ion Battery

Li-ion battery is better than a lead-acid battery in the context of both price and size. It can be charged with 3.7 V effectively which means the smaller solar panel will work properly. Moreover, during the cloudy days – batteries can be changed easily without any extra efforts. No, further maintenance is, required by this battery and the average lifestyle of the battery will be 5-6 years. This battery has the only limitation that it might explode during extreme weather conditions. These batteries react at high and low-temperature conditions.

3. Lithium-Ion Phosphate Battery

LiFePO4 battery is highly compact and priced as compared to Li-ion battery. It is the most efficient and advanced battery types available in the market. Plus, it requires only 3.2 V of power to charge so it can easily charge during the cloudy days.

Moreover, the smaller size of the solar panel is sufficient to run this battery. Further, to maintain these types of batteries no extra cost is required. On the top, lithium Ion phosphate batteries can function for at least 9-12 years without any problem. The advantage of using this battery is it can withstand extreme weather conditions. Hence this is the most safer battery.

The perfect solar battery

All the solar batteries have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. So, the final decision should be made based on your budget, climatic conditions, and daily solar power requirements. Once you have a clear idea about your solar light requirements, then you will be able to easily select the perfect solar light batteries for your home.
