PANAJI: The spree to convert land for settlement and construction continues with the Town and Country Planning department “rectifying” 5,001sqm of natural cover. Four plots of land in Bambolim and Naqueri were corrected as settlement zone through a notification issued by chief town planner Rajesh Naik.

A 1,036sqm plot and a 1,295sqm plot in Bambolim in survey no 6, sub-division No. 2, 3, 5 and 6, which was classified as natural cover in the Regional Plan 2021, have now been corrected and earmarked for settlement.

Similarly, two plots at Naqueri, which were classified as orchard land, have now been converted to settlement zone.

The only outlier is the classification of a 5,500 sqm plot at Anjuna, which was earlier marked as orchard and natural cover. Through the notification, the TCP department has now put more restrictions and put the plot of land in the no-development zone.

The department on Thursday converted 31,928sqm of land from paddy fields to natural cover across the state in the Regional Plan 2021 based on applicants’ requests.

The conversion was effected after the department determined that the zone classification in the Regional Plan 2021 was “inconsistent and incoherent”.
