NAGPUR: The state government is likely to regularize slums that have cropped up on private lands in coming days. During his maiden visit to the city after appointment as principal secretary of urban development department, Asim Gupta has directed Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to submit a proposal to the government for change in user of lands on which 58 notified slums are situated across the city.

“One of the methods in pipeline is to change land user to public housing to enable acquisition of land followed by allotment of ownership rights to slum-dwellers. Decision related to 25 non-notified slums on private lands will also be taken soon. All issues related to slums situated on lands owned by the government agencies are over,” he said.

Having worked as municipal commissioner in NMC between 2018 and 2020, Gupta directed NMC and NIT to resolve complaints of lengthy process for regularization of plot and house in proposed Smart City area.

“I have given two options, of which one is opening of single window system where employees of NIT and NMC’s NSSCDCL can sit together and regularize plot as well as house at a time. Second option is that either NIT or NSSCDCL get both powers of proposed Smart City areas,” he said.
