PUNE: The Maan Mhalunge town planning scheme has been granted clearance by the environmental impact assessment authority of the state government.

Pune Metropolitan Development Authority (PMRDA) officials on Friday said that the sanctions were granted by the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) authority of the environment department for the revised plan. Earlier, there were objections to the plots for the scheme as they were falling in the floodline area. The revised plan was submitted after reallocating the plots.

The town planning scheme is proposed on an area of 250.50 hectares and preliminary approval was granted by the state government in 2019.

PMRDA commissioner Rahul Mahiwal said that the environmental clearance will help speed up the project. The town planning scheme was showcased as the model at the Magnetic Maharashtra meet in 2018.

Deputy collector Ramdas Jagtap told TOI that the arbitrator has completed the hearings after calling for suggestions and objections and will soon submit it for final approval. The approval from the environment department was necessary. “A presentation was made before the EIA and accordingly, the state government has given an all-clear,” he said. Construction of roads in the scheme has been proposed by the authority.
