VADODARA: Residents of Jivannagar housing scheme for the urban poor constructed by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and Himmatnagar developed by the Gujarat Housing Board (GHB) made representations regarding the dilapidated conditions of their houses.

The condition of Jivannagar houses has sparked a row as it was completed around 10 years ago and have already developed cracks and seepages. Lumps of concrete are also falling off the slabs of the ceilings of these houses.

The VMC has blamed the residents for the state of affairs claiming that the houses were maintained badly. The residents, however, say that the issues in the housing scheme were due to the shoddy quality of work. They have demanded that they should be provided new houses or should be allowed to resettle in the area from where they were ousted a decade back.

Himmatnagar residents find themselves in a difficult situation as their houses that were constructed over four decades ago are unfit for human habitation. The residents submitted a memorandum stating that they had paid the complete amount towards the houses and sales deeds should be executed in their name.

The residents of Himmatnagar also sought that their residential scheme should be considered for redevelopment. They assured that all of them were ready for redevelopment and would give this in writing in an affidavit.
