Rebate Ends Today, Residents Rush To Pay Property Tax Dues, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate
LUDHIANA: As only a day was left to avail 10% rebate on property tax, water supply and sewer dues, long queues of taxpayers were seen outside MC suvidha centres on Friday.
Against a set target of Rs 130 crore, MC had achieved Rs 81.5 crore till Thursday and want to generate Rs 90 crore by Saturday. The suvidha centres will remain open on Saturday as well. Meanwhile, those who had gone to the centres for property-related work were advised to visit the following week as staff was busy with tax collection.
MC superintendent Vivek Verma said he was satisfied with the pace of tax collection and was sure of achieving the target. He said the residents have a tendency to pay tax at the eleventh hour owing to which the staff at the suvidha centres will remain occupied on Saturday as well.
The civic officials said the residents can pay their dues without any interest and penalty till December end. Meanwhile, the officials concerned will try to get response from the defaulters of previous years, including some government departments, who are now covered under the OTS policy.
An amount of Rs 9 crore was to be received from the city bus stand authorities, however, they had only paid a partial sum. A large amount is still pending therefore, the officials will calculate their tax dues again, which they said will prove to be beneficial for the bus stand officials.
Meanwhile, the MC had recently told the owners of city malls and commercial complexes to submit their rent deeds, however, many of them didn’t comply. The authorities will issue notices to them after getting free from the September 30 rush.
