GANDHINAGAR: Those getting immovable property transactions registered must henceforth mention only the last four digits of their Aadhaar card numbers for property documents, a statement from the inspector general of registration and superintendent of stamps, said on Wednesday.

While both parties in a property deal, along with the witness, will need to provide copies of their Aadhaar cards at the sub-registrar’s office, these will not be part of the property documents. The copies will be kept in the records of the sub-registrar’s offices, the statement said.

This has been done to ensure that the Aadhaar-enabled payment system (AEPS) is not misused and people do not lose their money.

“If needed, parties to the deal and witnesses should provide only the last four digits of their Aadhaar numbers. The other eight digits can be starred. Aadhaar copies will no longer be part of property documents,” the statement said. It added that copies of Aadhaar cards will remain in the records of the sub-registrar’s office.

The statement added that all sub-registrar’s offices have been directed to ensure that copies of Aadhaar cards are not attached to property documents that are registered.
