NOIDA: The district administration on Friday conducted an anti-encroachment drive and demolished several illegal structures on the Hindon floodplain in Greater Noida. The move came after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directed the administration to remove the encroachments and demarcate the floodplains.

SDM Sadar Ankit Kumar said that district administration officials, such as the tehsildar, inspect the area and submit reports. We received information that some people were illegally plotting on the floodplains in Safipur village in Greater Noida.

On reaching the spot with a team and earthmovers, we found that people had plotted the land and made structures in Khatauni 13, 14, and 15. We demolished the structures and seized construction materials. Two locals – Ravinder Tiger and Shailendra Garg – were plotting and selling the piece of land,” he said.

The SDM said that during the demolition drive, there was no resistance as no one was present there. The 40-acre free land will be worth Rs 20 crore. No FIR was registered in this regard.

Last month, NGT directed the DM to ensure the demarcation of the floodplain zone and asked for a report in two months.
