MUMBAI: Police have slapped yet another FIR on jailed builder Jayesh Tanna, brother Deep and son Vivek for cheating 28 flatbuyers of Rs 40 crore. TOI has learnt that the case is likely to be taken over by police’s economic offences wing.

Tanna, who is lodged in Arthur Road jail, has been booked in nine offences registered all over Mumbai. Police said in most of these cases, Tanna and his family members allegedly sold flats to third parties.

The fresh complaint pertains to a 2012 redevelopment housing project in Goregaon by Sai Siddhi, co-owned by Tanna. One Bhavin Barot was looking to buy a flat when he visited Pearl CHS in Goregaon.

Tanna was redeveloping the building where he was to rehabilitate the old tenants and sell some flats in the open market. Barot booked a flat for Rs 1.6 crore and made a sale agreement.

Tanna was to hand the flat over in January 2013. In 2016, Barot learnt that there was some dispute between the developer and the old tenants. In 2018, the tenants terminated his redevelopment agreement, following which the resident filed an arbitration case against Tanna.

Barot found there were 27 more flatbuyers who were affected, who first approached the CHS committee members and later went to police when nothing came of it.
