VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh has so far grounded nearly 93% of the sanctioned 21.25 lakh housing units under ‘Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu’ programme.

The state government has allocated Rs 7,630 crore for the housing project this fiscal. Those beneficiaries (voluntarily) choosing the energy efficient appliances will enjoy a package consisting of four LED bulbs, two LED tube lights, and two energy efficiency fans at prices below market rates.

The Andhra Pradesh State Housing Company Limited earlier entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The purpose of this agreement is to supply 6 lakh LED bulbs, 3 lakh LED tube lights, and 3 lakh BLDC ceiling fans in the first phase to the Jagananna Colonies’ housing beneficiaries under ‘Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu’ scheme.

This strategic step is expected to result in substantial energy savings, estimated at 734 units per house annually, and a total of 1145 million units yearly across 15.6 lakh houses in phase one of the scheme. Energy-efficient BLDC fans are set to reduce consumption by 50%, LED tube lights by 60%, and LED bulbs by an impressive 90% compared to conventional appliances.

Speaking during a webinar with EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor and Senior executives of EESL Animesh Mishra, Savitri Singh, Nitin Bhutt and Pavan, AP special chief secretary (housing) Ajay Jain explained the state’s commitment to provide good electricity infrastructure to YSR Jagananna colonies.

“Ensuring access to modern energy is a pivotal step in improving living standards and expanding economic opportunities for the beneficiaries,” said Ajay Jain.

Along with the Andhra Pradesh state housing company limited MD G Lakshmisha, Ajay Jain explained the progress ‘Navaratnalu Pedalankriillu’ programme.

“The government’s substantial investment of Rs. 7,630 crore in the ongoing financial year underscores its dedication to providing quality housing and social infrastructure,” said Ajay Jain.

He thanked special chief secretary (energy) K Vijayanand for extending full support for electricity infrastructure development and project management consultancy activities for energy efficiency project.

EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor said, “Key initiatives like energy conservation building codes highlight the government’s proactive approach. The newly introduced Eco Niwas Samhita 2021, of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, an Energy conservation building code for residential buildings, sets rigorous energy performance standards.”
