MYSURU: The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) proposed seven clusters along with the proposed Peripheral Ring Road (PRR). These include heritage living, IT, garments, health, and educational and pharmaceutical clusters.
According to the stakeholders, these clusters, if implemented, will give the required boost to the city’s development.
According to the MUDA officials, the proposed PRR would encompass commercial, residential, and multi-purpose clusters on either side of the road.
These include hardware and software clusters (Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway), health and educational clusters (Mysuru-Madikeri Road), IT and BT employment clusters (Mysuru-Nanjangudu), pharma clusters (Mysuru-T Narasipura Road), garments, and apparels clusters (Mysuru-HD Kote Road), Heritage City, garments, and apparels clusters (Mysuru-Gaddige Road) and heritage living and sports village on Mysuru-Bannur road.
According to an estimation, 27,500 acres of land is required for the development of townships around the PRR. The estimated cost for the land acquisition is Rs 41,250 crore.
Mysuru MP Pratap Simha said that Rs10 crore is released towards the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The revenue generated from these clusters are enough for their construction. The project is key for the futuristic development of the city, he said.
Vishwaprasad Alva, founder & MD, Skanray Technologies, said this noise about PRR is badly timed. The elected representatives and the government should do is create a vision document and a short-term (3 years), mid-term (8 years) and long-term (25 years) comprehensive city development plan, budget and execution table.
“We have Bengaluru as a example of what not to repeat. Ad hoc projects without long-term vision, assessment of ecological impact and heritage will be too expensive, destructive and irreversible damage to the city. Let them spell out a comprehensive plan before starting sporadic work,” he added.
