MOHALI: Bajwa Developers managing director Jarnail Singh Bajwa, who had landed behind the bars on multiple occasions, has been arrested by the crime investigating agency (CIA) of Mohali police for allegedly cheating customers.

In March 2022, Bajwa was arrested along with his son, but was released on bail after a few months. He is a promoter of Sunny Enclave and other housing societies in Kharar. He was also arrested in a cheque bounce case in 2020 and was also declared a proclaimed offender by the court.

Bajwa was arrested following a complaint filed by Sanjeev Sharma, a resident of Sector 9, Pocket-1 Dwarka, New Delhi, who stated that Jarnail Singh Bajwa MD Bajwa Developers Kharar, Punjab, was doing fraud in the name of selling plot measuring 250 sq yard at Jandpur, Sunny Enclave, a township in Kharar.

Sanjeev alleged that an agreement for sale deed dated May 11, 2011 was executed between Jarnail Singh Bajwa and him for a total sale value fixed at Rs 31,99,625. After taking 100% payment on May 1, 2012, Bajwa neither showed the plot existing at the spot nor called him for possession. “As and when I used to visit the office of Bajwa, every time they showed me undeveloped plot without marking of number and assured possession of the plot in a short duration,” he claimed.

He further alleged that Bajwa and his team involving Baldev Singh and other officials, misguided him with a motive to cheat him and earn an undue benefit from the payment he made. “I had arranged for the money by availing a loan from informal sources and selling out my other assets to fulfil my dream of an independent house. Now, I am facing a financial crisis as I have lost all my earnings,” he said.

“Again when on July 29, 2020, I visited Bajwa’s office at Sunny Enclave, Mohali, their office receptionist in the name of issuing “no due certificate” and preparation of registration documents, confiscated my original agreement documents and the transfer fee receipt of Rs 8,000, and handed me the photocopy of the agreement and receipt duly signed as “original received” and stamped.

Sanjeev alleged that Bajwa and their entire staff since the beginning was well aware that the land for which we entered into an agreement was not approved by the GMADA and was an agricultural land that belonged to the villagers. “The land cannot be acquired, as the villagers already denied to hand over the land, which can be established from the fact that Bajwa when arrested on August 5, 2020, seven months after being declared a PO by a local court in six cheque bounce cases amounting to Rs 1.94 crore, on a complaint filed by complainant Naseeb Kaur, a resident of Kharar who sold around 12 kanals of land to Bajwa’s firm,” he added.
