Mcc Survey To Add 30,000 More Properties To Tax Net, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate
MANGALURU: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) expects an increase in the number of property taxpayers by at least 30,000 after a door-to-door survey planned to be carried out next month.
Currently, official data shows the city has 2.13 lakh properties. However, MCC does not receive property tax under the SAS from more than 15% of the properties.
MCC commissioner Anand CL told TOI that the survey will also help the city corporation increase its revenue through additional property tax.
“The KMF 24 survey that was planned across the state has not been carried out in Mangaluru even though all other city corporations have done it. MCC does not have complete data of the properties in the city. MCC should have taken up the survey, but for some reasons it has been delayed. We already have 2.13 lakh properties, and the number is going up,” said Anand.
“Through the KMF 24 survey, our staff will go to the field and collect details including sale deeds and all other documents pertaining to the properties. The physical copies of the properties will be collected from the owners. Later, our data entry operators will upload the complete details of the properties to the system,” he said, adding that the survey will begin on September 25.
Initially, MCC’s multi-purpose workers (MPWs) will distribute handbills that contain information regarding document copies that need to be submitted to the MCC for the survey in all 60 wards. Thereafter, they will visit again to collect the copies of the documents after a few days, he said.
“We are planning to complete the exercise within a month so that a correct picture of the city’s properties will be available with the city corporation. Currently, we are receiving property tax from 1.8 lakh out of the 2.13 properties in the city. We will get a clear picture why some 30,000 properties are left out of the tax net. No properties should be left out of the tax net. We are also expecting an increase in revenue,” he added.
