MUMBAI: The cabinet has approved Rs 25 crore for a cluster redevelopment project to provide affordable housing in three areas of Thane.
The money was sanctioned from the Mahatma Phule Backward Class Development Corporation by the social justice department. Chief minister Eknath Shinde holds the social justice portfolio and hails from Thane.
The redevelopment will be carried out by a sister concern of the corporation.
The areas where the cluster redevelopment will be carried out are Kisan Nagar, Tekdi Bangla and Hazoori. The area comprises poor and low-income households.
An MoU has already been signed with the Thane Municipal Corporation to carry out the cluster redevelopment, said a government press release. The money is the interest accrued on the principal amount with the corporation and is to be repaid.
