LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Development Authority has claimed to have uncovered a scam worth Rs 100 crore involving illegal allotment of a huge piece of land to a private developer in Gomtinagar Extension scheme in exchange for the land in the catchment area of Gomti river.

The probe led by LDA vice-chairperson Indramani Tripathi found that the Authority had started acquiring land for Shaheed Path and Gomtinagar expansion schemes in 2000 in various villages. A piece of land measuring 6,070 square metres in Maleshemau village near the Shaheed Path was excluded from the acquisition because it was located within the Gomti catchment area.

The inquiry report, which was made public on Monday, found that ownership of this land was fraudulently claimed in 2006 by a local resident who later sold it to a developer through a registered deed.

On October 30, 2006, one of the partners of the developers submitted an application at the LDA claiming that the land in question has been acquired by the Authority for its two schemes and requested allotment of undeveloped land of the same area in exchange, said officials.

After receiving application, some LDA employees fraudulently showed the land as part of the acquisitions done for the two schemes and on January 12, 2007, granted 6,070 square metres of undeveloped land in Sector-4 of the Gomtinagar Extension scheme to the builder.

On May 8, 2015, the LDA approved the registry of the land allotted to the firm which paid around Rs 85 lakh as external development fees, they added. “An inquiry was initiated which exposed the scam. The allocation of the land has been revoked. We will recommend the matter to the state government for further probe,” the LDA VC said.
