CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday announced a hike in the amount allocated for the Dr B R Ambedkar Awas Navinikarn Yojana.

During an online interaction with beneficiaries in Rohtak, he said that financial assistance has been raised from Rs 50,000 to Rs 80,000 for repairing homes. He said till now, one lakh people have applied under this scheme.

During the “CM Ki Vishesh Charcha”, many beneficiaries shared the stories of their hardships and how the modest houses they built deteriorated with time due to lack of maintenance.

Khattar said the state government stands with the poor and strives to integrate them into society. “Initially, the scheme benefited individuals belonging to scheduled castes and tribes and others living below the poverty line. However, the scope has now been expanded to include families from all income groups with an annual income of up to Rs 1.8 lakh. The financial assistance for repairs is being directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ accounts. To date, over 66,000 beneficiaries have received assistance of about Rs 370 crore,” he added.

The CM said that the state government has launched the “Mukhyamantri Shehri Awaas Yojana”, allowing underprivileged families to apply for housing through a portal.
