RANCHI: Over 100 beneficiaries of Light House Project (Labhukh Garib Parivar) which is part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (urban) in Dhurwa, protested outside the Ranchi Municipal Corporation office on Friday expressing concern over the quality of construction and material as a block of the building collapsed on July 10.

The project is in its final stage, with SGC magistrate, the company expected to finish 1,008 houses and hand them over to the urban development department by June 30 next year.

But, 340 beneficiaries have not yet deposited their share of the amount. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the municipal commissioner, urging the quality report of the project be made public and that better construction materials be used.

Chairman of the Labhuk Committee, Sudhir Tiwari, said, “There is growing concern among the beneficiaries that the poor families living in this project may become victims of any unfortunate incidents in the future, especially after part of the building collapsed. Tiwari questions who would be held responsible if such incidents occur when hundreds of families start living in the project.”

Assistant administrator, Sheetal Kumari, said, “The RMC team, in collaboration with the directorate of municipal administration, will investigate the matter. The team will ensure the problem is resolved and the repair is completed quickly.”
