NOIDA: The pollution control board may be slapping penalties on companies and contractors for flouting GRAP norms, but construction waste is still being dumped in areas such as sectors 81 and 51, Garhi village near Sector 143B, and Barola near Sector 49, residents allege.

In Delta 2 of Greater Noida, construction workers staying at project sites have also been burning firewood in the open in violation of the norms. GRAP has been implemented since October 1, but on the ground, there seems to be no sign of it.

People across Noida are still flouting NGT norms on pollution as C&D waste is left uncovered in the open and dust from it can be seen in the air,” said Amit Gupta, a resident of 7X sectors. Gupta, who commuted in some of the areas, recently pointed out that the road near Sector 81 metro station was full of dust, while the situation was no different near Garhi village.

Another resident pointed out the mound of mud in Sector 51 left in the open. “There’s mud on the road in front of the Sector 51 police post. Someone tried to install a pole and left the mud after digging the road. Is this how they plan to curb pollution?” he added. C&D waste was also found at Hanuman Murti main road in Barola. “C&D material is dumped in the open here, and there’s no action on it,” added Gupta.

Meanwhile, Manish Bhati, the RWA vice president of blocks B, C, and D of Sector Delta 2, complained that labourers have been burning firewood in under-construction and vacant houses. “Labourers burn firewood till late at night, which leads to smoke emissions. We also requested that they not do so, but they did not pay any heed. We have now complained to the GNIDA CEO, as we do not want to pay NGT fines for no fault of ours,” added Bhati. The Authority officials could not be reached for a comment on the matter.
