NEW DELHI: Girish Teckchandani, director, Redcard Switches & Home said that smart lighting products are increasingly being accepted in smaller cities. This is apart from the existing demand it generates from tier-I cities.

“We have seen a very good acceptability for smart lighting in very small cities like Dhulia, Sangli and all nearby places in Mumbai or other tier-I cities,” he said.

According to Teckchandani market for smart lighting has really emerged in the last couple of months. “We’ve seen a lot of developments in this particular field. It’s been very well appreciated by architects, consultants and builders.”

Builders especially, according to him, are not just thinking of conventional switches. “The demand has now moved beyond conventional switches to smart lights, smart switches and smart systems,” he added.

He however feels that Indian manufacturers have an edge over the Chinese manufacturers when it comes to smart lighting. “Home automation or smart lighting is not just about install it and forget it, you need to have a dedicated after-sale service for it, which I doubt Chinese manufacturers would be able to cater to,” added Teckchandani.
