GURUGRAM: The district administration on Friday sent a list of four illegal colonies to the state government for regularisation. Till now, the administration has sent a list of around 40 colonies for regularisation.

After getting the approval, all colonies will be considered as legal and the government will carry out the development works like – sewage, drainage, water supply and road.

In 2021, the administration surveyed 102 illegal colonies in the city, of which 60 colonies were found eligible for getting legalised. As per the norms, illegal colonies which have a minimum of 2 acres of land and 3-metre-wide road network will be eligible to become legal colonies. Haryana is preparing for municipal elections of MCG and MCM, before announcement of the election dates the eligible illegal colonies are likely to get the “legal tag”.

Deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav after a meeting of district level scrutiny committee for regularisation of illegal colonies, said those colonies which fulfil the criteria set by the state will be recommended for regularisation. All the four colonies sent for regularisation are in the jurisdiction of the town and country planning department.

The development of these colonies will be regularised under the Haryana Management of Civic Amenities and Infrastructure Deficient Areas Outside Municipal Area (Special Provisions) Act, 2021.

With an eye on the assembly election to be held in 2024, the BJP-JJP coalition government in August had regularised 450 unauthorised colonies in 16 districts of the state.
