GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad Development Authority’s proposed Vaishali to Electronic City metro extension project seems to have run into a land hurdle. The authority may have to acquire private land in Niti Khand and Ramprastha for the proposed alignment of the corridor, which may inflate the cost of the project, officials said Saturday.

The 5.8km corridor—proposed to pass through National Highway 9, CISF camp to DPS Indirapuram before curving near the Ramlila ground towards Niti Khand, Gyan Khand and Ramprastha Greens—is estimated to cost about Rs 1,166 crore.

“The GDA recently surveyed the proposed route. The corridor’s alignment after DPS Indirapuram takes a curve towards Niti Khand and Gyan Khand. At this point, we have noted, there isn’t enough land to accommodate the bend. Bypassing the Hindon Elevated Road near Vaishali could be another problem point as there is a big private land parcel in Ramprastha which falls on the proposed route,” Manvendra Singh, GDA’s officiating chief engineer, told TOI.

If the GDA has to acquire the private land, it may drum up the project’s estimated cost, Singh said.

The proposed route and possible realignments are likely to be taken up at a meeting between the GDA vice chairperson and DMRC next week.

The GDA and DMRC proposed a new metro corridor between Vaishali and Electronic City to tie up the two ends of the Blue Line after the state government rejected the funding proposal for two metro extension projects – Electronic City to Sahibabad and Vaishali to Mohan Nagar.

In December last year, GDA had proposed that 50% cost of the two extension projects be borne by the state government, 20% by the central government and the remaining, in rolling stocks, be borne by the DMRC and agencies like GDA, GMC, Housing Board and UPSIDC.
