GURUGRAM: Taking a strict action on illegal dumping of C&D waste in the city, MCG on Thursday imposed a challan of Rs 1.1crore on the developer of Platinum Tower in Sector 28 for dumping construction waste on the master stormwater drain adjoining the greenbelt.

According to a senior MCG official, 12,881 metric tonnes of C&D waste has been generated and dumped illegally in the greenbelt area.

The MCG will recover more than Rs 92 lakh from the developer for lifting the debris and its disposal, while 20% of the assessment amount, which is over Rs 18 lakh is the penalty they have to pay for dumping construction waste illegally. Recently, GMDA and MCG chief PC Meena directed the officials to increase their vigilance towards illegal dumping of C&D waste across the city.

“The C&D waste debris dumped in the greenbelt area is choking the stormwater drain. There is a clear direction for proper disposal of C&D waste, but the developer failed to comply with it. This is why we have issued a challan,” the MCG official said.

When contacted, the developer of Platinum Tower refused to comment.

The action came after GMDA found the drain blocked leading to waterlogging around IFFCO Chowk Metro station. In March, the authority had issued a notice to the developer directing them to remove the C&D waste, failing which action would be taken.
