INDORE: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), while continuing its drive to remove dilapidated buildings, demolished 21 residential structures, which were dangerous for the occupants and passersby as well, in zone 8 on Monday .

Ahead of monsoon, IMC has launched a drive to demolish structures that are decades old and are in dilapidated condition. On Monday, the IMC removal team reached Bakery Wali Gali and demolished 21 houses that were stated to be more than 50-year-old. The structures were occupied. So, the civic body’s staff first helped residents to vacate their belongings before carrying out the drive.

During this, some of the residents claimed that their houses are not in bad shape and their demolition will make them homeless as they don’t have any other accommodation.

On the other hand, many people themselves have started demolishing portions of their residential and commercial structures that were posing hurdles in the road widening work between Raoji Bazaar police station and Sonkar Dharamshala.

IMC has marked more than 100 hurdles between 4-5 feet and 8-10 feet as portions of residential and commercial structures that are to be demolished for the road widening work.

At present, frequent traffic jams on this stretch is one of the major issues the commuters face every day.
