Chennai residents can dump building debris in these 15 places, ET RealEstate

CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation has asked residents to dump construction debris at 15 designated spots in the city. From here, the waste will be collected by the contractor and processed.

Those who dump debris of less than one tonne in public places will be fined Rs 2,000 and those who dump waste of more than one tonne will be fined Rs 5,000.

The designated areas are: Zone one Tiruvottiyur: Buckingham Canal Road in Sathangadu, Zone two: Manali Kamaraj Salai, Zone 3: Madhavaram near CMDA truck terminal, Zone four: Tondiarpet West Avenue Road in MKB Nagar Vyasarpadi, Zone 5: Royapuram, Zone 6: Tiru Vi Ka Nagar Awathana Papaya Road, Zone 7: Ambattur CTH Road, Zone 8: Anna Nagar First Main Road near Shenoy Nagar next to Jayalakshmi Colony, Zone 9: Teynampet Lyod’s Colony near GCC ITI, Zone 10: Koambakkam Gurusiva Street S M Block, Jafferkhanpet near R10 MGR police station, Zone 11: Valsaravakkam Natrajan Road junction an Bharathi Salai junction near Ramapuram lake, Zone 12: Alandur Krishnanagar Main Road, Zone 13: Velachery burial ground main road, Zone 14: Perungudi dumpyard near 200 Feet Radial Road and Zone 15: Sholinganallur Gangai Amman Kovil Street Karapakkam.

The corporation has classified buildings generating more than 20 metric tonne of waste as bulk waste generators and they should process the waste by themselves through contractors appointed by the GCC.

From January 2022 to August 2023, a total of Rs 1.8 crore has been collected from violators who dumped debris in the open.
