CHANDIGARH: MC commissioner Anindita Mitra held a review meeting with the property tax branch of the civic body to assess its progress and issues.
Discussions revolved around property tax defaulters, recoveries and notices sent. Sources said that since many defaulters were still evading tax, more notices would be served.
If payment was delayed further, properties of defaulters would be sealed. “Panjab University and Chandigarh administration have been found to be major property tax defaulters. Documentation related to defaulters’ files will be prepared to send notices in the days to come,” sources said.
The MC had given two-month rebate period, April and May, for taxpayers to avail the rebate facility.
During the rebate period, the authority gave 20% rebate on residential properties of the city and 10% on commercial properties.
