CCP eyes additional taxes with GIS survey of all homes in Panaji, ET RealEstate
PANAJI: In an attempt to plug revenue leakages, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) will conduct a GIS survey of all homes and commercial establishments within its jurisdiction.
The survey will be conducted by Nagpur-based firm, Kolbro Group, whose officials will go door-to-door collecting data and geolocating it on a GIS map.
In previous tax assessment surveys, government departments and government housing colonies emerged as the biggest defaulters when it comes to paying house and sanitation taxes.
“The survey is being done from a tax assessment point of view to see how much tax is being paid and if any extension has been done. Once we have the proper data, we will be able to increase our revenue and plug leakages,” said CCP commissioner Clen Madeira.
Goa State Urban Development Agency has appointed Kolbro Group, through a tender process.
Kolbro Group’s surveyors will visit every household, residential apartment, and commercial property to check if house tax, trade licences, and signboard fees are being paid properly.
“Sometimes, a trader or shopkeeper has five signboards but is paying the corporation for just one. We will also be checking to see if there is any extension in the plinth area of homes so that house tax can be charged accordingly,” said Madeira.
The officials will be provided with identity cards and a municipal inspector will accompany them in order to assuage the safety concerns of residents, CCP stated in a public notice.
In 2017, a similar initiative was proposed under the Smart City Mission by Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL). IPSCDL has proposed to undertake a drone survey.
