BHUBANESWAR: Homebuyers of Kharavela Enclave, a premium housing project executed by Odisha State Housing Board (OSHB) in Khandagiri area here, on Monday protested before the OSHB office at Unit IV demanding immediate handover of their units.

The protesting homebuyers said though they have paid the entire amount for their flats to the board, they are yet to bhanded over their units even after the deadline passed years ago. As many as 100 allottees demonstrated before the board’s office on Monday.

The board took up the project in 2011 with the deadline for its completion fixed within three years. Accordingly, construction began along with booking of the flats. However, 12 years have passed but the project is yet to be completed.

“The project was supposed to be completed by 2014 and we should have got our flats. But there are no positive signs so far. We have reached out to the board a number of times in the past, but to no avail,” said Susanta Panigrahi, secretary of Kharavela Enclave Allottees’ Association.

Panigrahi said they submitted a complaint to the chief minister’s office a few months back which was forwarded to the housing and urban development department and then to OSHB, but they are yet to see any action.

Association member Jay Narayan Mishra termed it the most difficult period in his life. “We bought the flats with our hard-earned money, but still living in rented homes. On one hand, we are counting EMIs for our home loans, while on the other hand, we are paying rent too,” Mishra said.
