BELAGAVI: The Belagavi Urban Development Authority (BUDA) has extended its limit to additional 28 villages surrounding the city.

Following the government’s instructions, BUDA commissioner has issued a notification in this regard, under the authority given under Section 4 (A)(1) of Karnataka Urban and Rural Planning Act 1961.

Shortly, the director of town planning will entrust the work of preparing a fresh master plan to a firm by calling tender notification. The new master plan will cover an additional 28 villages surrounding the city. The plan approved by the government in 2014 had included 15 villages into BUDA. Now, another 28 villages are going to come under the BUDA limits.

In fact, the 2014 master plan of BUDA was approved after 30 years. However, a fresh master plan is coming within 10 years of the last master plan. Once the process is completed, any infrastructure-related plans in all 41 villages are supposed to get prior permission from BUDA.

According to BUDA, the new master plan was supposed to be prepared and approved in 2021. However, it has been approved after a two years’ delay. Speaking to the TOI, BUDA commissioner Shakeel Ahmad said the BUDA limit has been extended to 28 villages according to the directions of the government.

“The decision will help for the systematic growth, development of connectivity, industries and systematic residential areas and other amenities like green spaces,” he added.

Sources said, the areas will be marked for different purposes such as residential, industry etc. According to the master plan approved in 2014, the total area under BUDA limit was 182 square kms. The total area of BUDA after including 28 villages will be calculated while preparing the new master plan.
