GURUGRAM: The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has generated a revenue of Rs 150 crore from property tax since April 1 this year, achieving 30% of its target. The civic body aims to earn Rs 500 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal.

MCG commissioner PC Meena, in a review meeting held on Friday, asked senior officials to augment income from property tax and advertisements. In its budget, the corporation had estimated income from property tax to be Rs 250 crore. However, the department of urban local bodies (ULB) had directed it to enhance the projection to Rs 500 crore. In Friday’s meeting, Meena told officials to ensure complaints related to property tax data received on the ULB portal in a timely manner so that its number doesn’t exceed 500 at any given time.

“The commissioner asked officials to apprise the residents about self-certification of property tax data. In the meeting, he said residents should pay their tax dues by September 30 to avail a 15% discount. The commissioner also directed MCG joint commissioners to monitor the work of distributing tax assessment notices. He also asked the officials to expedite the work of resolving complaints related to property tax,” MCG spokesperson SS Rohilla said.

The commissioner also directed officials to ensure that residents register complaints on streetlights via the MCG toll-free number.

The contract for streetlights and their maintenance in the city has been terminated by the concessionaire, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), due to alleged non-payment of dues amounting to Rs 30 crore. So, the commissioner asked officials to ensure that the complaints about streetlights are addressed.

Meena also asked officials to start repairs of roads under its jurisdiction that are 18m and 24m wide. MCG plans to conduct a special campaign from September 18 to September 24 to replace damaged manhole covers with new ones.

The commissioner also asked MCG officials to resolve all the complaints received through various social media platforms in a timely manner.

“If the officials don’t resolve the complaints, stern action will be taken against them,” he said.
