GURUGRAM: The department of town and country planning (DTCP), on the state government’s directions, has issued a notification for regularising 21 illegal colonies in the city.

This comes as a huge relief to hundreds of families living in these colonies, as DTCP will now provide civic amenities to them such as roads and water and sewer lines.

These colonies are situated in Manesar, Sohna, Farrukhnagar, Badshapur and Pataudi.

DTCP started the process of regularising old unauthorised colonies falling outside municipal limits in August last year.

A survey was conducted to record the status of basic amenities in such colonies. According to records, there are around 500 unauthorised colonies in and around the city.

In a survey, a total of 102 illegal colonies were identified. The notification granting 21 of them the legal tag was issued on Monday.

District town planner (enforcement) Manish Yadav said, “DTCP director general TL Satyaprakash has issued directions to take strict action against illegal colonies. We were told to conduct a survey of such colonies and submit a report.”

“Regularisation of these colonies will pave the way for development work. The state will provide funds for this. Those getting the legal tag include four colonies each in Manesar, Farrukhnagar and Sohna, seven in Pataudi, one in Badshapur and one in Pataudi-Manesar,” said Yadav.
