NOIDA: The pollution board has sent a closure notice to two ready-mix concrete plants running illegally in Jaypee Wishtown.
The two plants stand on plots allocated for developing sports facilities in the master plan. According to residents, they have been in operation since the project started.
“One plant is by the society’s main road, which is illegal. It is just opposite Prometheus School on land allocated for sports facilities. Last week, after a fight with the operators, they shut down a plant, but two are still operating,” said SK Maheshwari, a resident, who filed a complaint with the pollution board.
The plants are a pollution concern and directly affect 30,000 people.
“I have installed an air purifier at my home, and when I open my doors and windows, the AQI goes to 600. Imagine what we breathe in,” said Maheshwari.
A pollution board official said, “The RMC plants did not obtain consent from the pollution board, and there are no green nets and water sprinkling arrangements on the sites too. During a recent inspection, the board recommended a penalty of Rs 50,000 each on the RMC plants for non-compliance with environmental rules. The operation of both the plants should stop and necessary action taken on the said matter as per rules.”
