PUNE: At least 125 property registrations in the district are under scanner for violating various laws governing the real estate sector in Maharashtra, property registration officials have said, following the scrutiny of 28,200 documents in the district’s 27 offices over the last two months.

The officials said the 125 documents have been found violating the Real Estate (Regulation and Development Act) 2016 and the Maharashtra Prevention of Fragmentation and Consolidation of Holdings Act, 1947.

“Of the 125 documents under scanner, 55 have been found in violation of the fragmentation act, while 56 flouting RERA norms,” a senior official said, citing the data.

In Pune district, a total of 67,489 documents were registered in the last two months. “Of these, as many as 28,200 documents were checked,” the official said.

RERA registration is mandatory for every realtor wanting to develop a residential or commercial property on an area of more than 500sqm or having more than eight apartments. There is a ban on registration of fragmented and small pieces of land under the Maharashtra Prevention of Fragmentation and Consolidation of Holdings Act of 1947.
