Speed Up Building Plan Approval Process, Corpn Tells Asst Engineers, ET RealEstate
COIMBATORE: The city corporation has instructed its assistant engineers to process the building plan applications within five to six days of their receipt to bring down the delay in granting approval to the residents.
As per the norms, building plan applications should be processed within a month. However, the assistant engineers themselves have been taking 30 days to process the applications, before forwarding them to higher officials. As a result, hundreds of applications have been pending for approval even after 30 days of their receipt.
Corporation commissioner M Prathap confirmed that he had directed the assistant engineers to process the applications in five to six days. “A week each is given to the assistant town planning officer, town planning officer and assistant corporation commissioner to clear the files. The deputy corporation commissioner has to do the work in just two days.”
As per the norms, assistant corporation commissioner is the final authority to grant approval for buildings that occupy less than 2,000sqft, while the deputy commissioner is tasked with granting approval for buildings that occupy 2,000sqft to 4,000sqft space. For buildings bigger than 4,000sqft, the corporation commissioner is the authority to grant approvals.
S Kumar, town planning officer, said 300 pending applications were cleared in the past one week, while the average number of applications received in a month was just around 250-300. “At least 150 of the 300 cleared applications had been pending for more than a month.”
He said they had sped up work at every stage of the building plan approval process, thanks to the intervention of the corporation commissioner.
“All the applications will be monitored digitally for their status. If the applications are not cleared by the assistant engineers or assistant town planning engineers on time, they will be asked to do it immediately.”
