PANAJI: Even as the deadline to complete all ongoing smart city work in Panaji is May 31, it seems that Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) may give it a skip for the smart road work on the stretch from Caculo Mall to the Tonca sewerage treatment plant (STP), due to practical challenges.

IPSCDL said that the cumulative target for completing all road works and making the road functional is May 31, however, this particular stretch may take a “little longer”.

“Considering the depth of sewerage works along the stretch which is nearly 8m below road level and is much below the bed of the St Inez creek, major challenges in drilling have been encountered,” IPSCDL said.

It said that out of the total of 430m, the main trunk pipeline (300m) has been laid, and work on the balance 130m, which passes under the St Inez creek and connects to the Tonca STP, is in progress.

“Along this stretch, out of a total of 9 manholes, one has been completed and one is in progress,” it added.

The ongoing sewerage work on the stretch is being monitored by IPSCDL led by its CEO Sanjit Rodrigues on an hourly basis, so as to meet the May 31 deadline.

As far as the stretch from the Four Pillar junction to the Old Patto bridge is concerned, the IPSCDL-appointed contractor has completed all major sewerage works, including a total pipeline of 1,400m, 40 manholes, and 80 house connection chambers. Only one inter-connection is pending, which is expected to be completed in a couple of days. Currently, road restoration work is in progress.

IPSCDL stated that road construction on this stretch for the smart road project can only begin after the PWD completes the current installation of new pumping lines to connect pump houses located at Mala, near Bhandari hospital, and near the income tax office.
