Mohali MC seals 5 units for tax default, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate
MOHALI: The enforcement wing of Mohali municipal corporation (MC) sealed five properties for tax default at Industrial Area Phase VII and IX on Wednesday, said MC commissioner Navjot Kaur.
The DC said: “The MC will seal 20 properties in Phase VII, IX and VIII owning approximately Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh property tax.”
She said, “The MC is yet to recover around Rs 8 to 9 crore as property tax from various defaulters — residential, commercial or governmental. Here in Industrial Area Phase VII and IX, property tax is pending from five industrial plots since 2019-20. The MC will later also calculate the property tax according to the declaration made by the persons operating, and if the operator is a tenant, then the amount of property tax will be increased.”
In 2023-24, the MC succeeded in collecting Rs 1.75 crore property tax from defaulters, after the sealing exercise. For collecting Rs 1.75 crore, the MC had to issue 1,800 sealing notices to the defaulters and as the MC went on to seal 15 such properties, the others came up and deposited their dues.
She said that the MC was yet to recover property tax worth Rs 5 crore from the GMADA, including its sports complexes in the city. Other defaulters in the list are DC office with Rs 40 lakh, Commando Complex with Rs 2.5 lakh, PWD building with Rs 40 lakh, excise and taxation department with Rs 15 lakh and many other properties with tax ranging between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
The MC chief said the civic body had collected Rs 31 crore property tax from the defaulters by Feb-end against a target of Rs 35 crore income from property tax, as per the 2023-24 budget.
The high court questions Anjuna-Caisua panchayat over delay in sealing 175 illegal structures in no-development and coastal regulatory zones. Panchayat faces difficulties in locating and sealing structures, requests assistance.
