MUMBAI: Housing board Mhada has declared the annual list of 20 dangerous cessed buildings in Mumbai city. Most are located in Girgaum. It has urged tenants and residents to follow safety protocols and cooperate with evacuation procedures by the Mumbai Buildings Repairs and Reconstruction Board.

The board has appealed to occupants to vacate the buildings and avoid loss of life and property. It has urged them to notify the 24/7 control room at Tardeo of danger or accidents at 022-2353 6945, 022- 2351 7423 and 93216 37699.

In view of the upcoming monsoon season. MBRRB completed its annual pre-monsoon survey of old and dilapidated cessed buildings in the island city and released a list of 20 buildings as “highly dangerous and un-inhabitable”. Of these, four buildings were also declared highly dangerous last year.

The list includes Bldg No. 4-4A, Navroji Hill Road No 1, Jolly Chambers, Bldg No 57, Nizam Street, Bldg 67, Masjid Street, Bldg 52-58, Babu Genu Road, Bldg 7 Khanderao Wadi/ 204-208, Kalbadevi Road, Bldg 52-52A, 2nd Deccan Cross Road, and Bldg 125-127A, Jamna Nivas, Khadilkar Road, Girgaum.

Apart from this Bldg 314B, Brahmand socy, VP Road, Girgaum and Bldg 418-426 SVP Road, (124 to 134A) Golecha House,.Bldg 83-87, Rawate Bldg, Girgaum and Bldg 213-215 DB Marg are listed.

The list includes Bldg 38-40, Slater Road, 9D Chuna Lane, 44E Naushir Bharucha Marg, 1 Khetwadi 12th Lane, 31C and 33A, R Rangnekar Marg and 19 Purandare Marg, Girgaum Chowpatty (included in last year’s list), Bldg 104-106, Meghji Building, A, B, and C Wing, Shivdas Chapsi Marg (included in last year’s list), and Bldg 55-59-61-63-65 Sophia Zuber Marg. The rest are Bldg 44-48, 33-37 and 9-12 Kamathipura 11th and 12th Gully, Deval Building, Plot No 721 and 724 TPS-3 Division, Building 40B and 428, Cess No. G North 50-95 (1) and G North-5103 Atmaram Building and Penkar Chawl (included in last year’s list).

These dangerous buildings house a total of 711 residents or tenants, comprising 494 residential and 217 non-residential occupants. About 36 tenants or residents have made their own alternative accommodation arrangements. So far, 46 residents have been relocated to transit camps. Eviction notices have been issued to the remaining inhabitants, and the process of vacating the premises is underway. Arrangements for relocating 412 people to transit camps are being planned by the board.
