BENGALURU: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Friday cautioned builders not to use drinking water for construction work, warning them that any violation of this stricture will lead to suspension of the no objection certificate (NOC) issued to the project.

BWSSB chairman Ram Prasath Manohar has issued a public notification in this regard, stating that builders should compulsorily use tre ated water for construction purposes. The board has introduced ‘Parisara Jalasnehi’, a web application, for the public to book supply of treated water for construction work. The booking of treated water can also be done on the BWSSB website.

Recently, BWSSB had banned usage of drinking water for other purposes — including construction work, washing of vehicles and in swimming pools.

BWSSB: Install flow restrictors

Manohar warned that to deal with violators, apart from suspending NOC, a proposal would also be sent to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike to cancel the building plan approval. BWSSB has suggested installation of flow restrictors in taps. Manohar said it is necessary to avoid water leakage, especially in shopping malls, commercial complexes, places of worship, hotels and restaurants. Flow restrictors are available in the markets and using them will help save 50% of water.
