JAMSHEDPUR: The East Singhbhum district administration will conduct a survey of buildings built near the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary (DWS).

Deputy commissioner (DC) Manjunath Bhajantri said those responsible for constructions within the eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) in violation of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines will face action.

Besides, the structures built on the banks of the Subernarekha river will also be inspected.

The DC said a joint committee of the relevant departments comprising forest, environment, notified area committee, building construction, among other, will be formed soon to make on-site inspection of the infrastructure.

The panel will study the ground reality, examine documents and see whether pollution control board standards have been complied with. The panel will do the study and submit a report to the DC, following which a follow-up action will be initiated against the violators of the NGT guidelines.

Further, if any government official is found involved in construction of any structures within the ESZ limits, the person will be taken to task, the DC said after chairing a review meeting on implementation of the NGT guidelines on Thursday.

The Union environment, forest and climate change ministry declared the entire forest zone as sensitive zone in 2016.

Spread across 193 sq km, the sanctuary houses 85 villages inside the forest and 51 villages on its periphery.

According to the notification, the area upto 5-km surrounding the sanctuary constitutes the sensitive zone.

Bhajantri asked the officials of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) and Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) to make sure buildings are not constructed in deviation of the plan approved by the municipal agency.

Organised infrastructure development of the town should be done in compliance with the environment and pollution control standards and officials concerned need to strictly ensure compliance of norms, the DC said.
