NEW DELHI: While the BMC has set a revised target for collecting a sum of Rs 4,500 crores as property tax for the financial year 2023-24, the civic body has so far collected a sum of Rs 3905 crores.

Meanwhile, municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani has directed the civic administration to speed up the process of auctioning seized assets of big property tax defaulters, who have defaulted on payment for years.

The Commissioner also directed the administration to inspect all properties in the 24 wards and revise property tax according to the changes in the properties, to increase the amount collected as property tax.

The Commissioner also directed to carry out strict penal action against the property owners, if they do not pay the tax before the due date.

Properties of big property tax defaulters, who have defaulted on payment of tax for years, and have been served notice of seizure and attachment earlier, should be auctioned in case of non-recovery of property tax, the Commissioner directed.
