GANDHINAGAR: The office of the inspector general of registration and superintendent of stamps has revised a circular issued by it earlier this month that said advocates preparing sale deeds were liable to be prosecuted in cases where the deed was executed in a fraudulent manner. The department issued a fresh circular on Tuesday, making the necessary changes.

The earlier notification, issued on March 7, stated that in instances where property deeds were found to be fraudulent, the two parties involved in the sale deed as well as the advocate who prepared the deed were liable for prosecution.

On Tuesday, the department issued a fresh circular stating that advocates preparing such deeds were not liable to be prosecuted.

On Monday, the Anjar Bar Association wrote a letter to the Bar Council of Gujarat (BCG), stating that the notification should be scrapped.

It said the clause of prosecuting advocates involved in preparing the sale deed was not acceptable and demanded that the BCG take up the matter with the state govt.
