About 32 stone crushers in Bijnor to face the heat as deadline to install CCTVs expires, ET RealEstate
BIJNOR: As the deadline for installing CCTV cameras at stone-crushing units expires, all the 32 facilities in Bijnor are likely to face the music.
On December 2, the directorate of geology and mining issued directions that weigh-bridges at these facilities should install CCTV cameras and connect them with the directorate and the district administration before December 18 but the crusher owners failed to do so.
Now, the mining department is contemplating action against the facilities flouting norms. The objective of this measure was to keep a watch on the activities on the crushing site and prevent any illegal mining as according to officials, some crusher owners, in an attempt to evade taxes, clandestinely release trucks loaded with mining materials without showing them in records.
When contacted, additional district magistrate (finance and revenue) Arvind Kumar Singh said, “We issued notices to the crusher owners and asked them to install CCTV cameras at their weighbridges for transparency but none of them have done it yet. Now, we will take action against those flouting norms.”
There are 43 stone-crushing units in the district, of which 32 are functional.
Crusher owners bring stones from the neighbouring state of Uttarakhand and make gravel and concrete that is used in the construction of roads and buildings.
Meanwhile, the mining officer has asked officials to conduct a special inspection at the site in Bijnor where soil mining is carried out. According to sources, some contractors are using JVC machines for mining which is illegal.
